the gremlins have taken over again. After starting for about a week the starting issues have returned. Crysus55 mentioned something about a air leak in the system. How do you locate the source? Also, can safety switches go bad? Thanks

When machine will not start, spray some wd 40 into air cleaner and it fires up, and will continue to restart if the machine is warm. Also , sometimes the unit starts for 2 weeks , or so, and then will not start up. Ps. As a aside, when I took the throttle plate off, and the machine is on, I observed some oil dripping like a cut artery into the fuel collection area at the injector pump.Is this normal, or is the engine blown? Thanks ....

Hi,
Just a update on this problem unit that usually will not start. After all the tinkering with the throttle plate, injectors, fuel filters, bleeding the lines, etc., for the past month, the tractor has been starting.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what gremlins are involved here. Is there a safety switch issue or maybe an air leak? And if there is an air leak, how do I isolate it?
Thanks for the help PS Any one considering buying a CC should have their head examined.

Hormer1,
The starter circuit on most any machine is one of the most neglected things I find when helping others with their starting problems.
Dirty battery terminals and loose cable connections are among the most common problems I find. It is critical that things be addressed on a routine basis.
Slightly less often, I find that the ground cable connection, where it attaches to the tractor's frame, may be the culprit behind many electrical gremlins. It is just as important that this terminal connection be clean and tight.
Bad battery cables cause all kinds of problems, and a great many times I've found that the problems with battery cables are not easy to spot. Just under the protective cover of the battery cable, where it attaches to the cable end, I've found cable corrosion so severe that it nearly causes the cable end to break off in my hand.
A whole lot of electrical current flows through these wires when the starter is engaged. If any of these things have a weak spot, or dirty connection, the starter will not engage.
Since your troubles seem to be inconsistent in nature, I would bet on a poor electrical connection in the starter circuit -- which would include battery connections, battery cables, ground connections at the frame, or even a loose wire on the starter itself.
Hope this helps.
Joel

If I read your comments correctly on WD 40 then the engine is turning over just not firing. To me that sounds like fuel unless your starter is not turning it over fast enough to fire and run.
You could try using jumper cables to it and see if that helps and but that still might no show up some of the issues Joel covered.
You should check the fuel system carefully for water also or other trash in it. ....
